Optical fiber probes for fluorescence based oxygen sensing
نویسندگان
چکیده
An optical fiber sensing system, for monitoring oxygen aiming in vivo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) applications is presented. Oxygen detection is based on the dynamic quenching of the fluorescence of a ruthenium complex trapped in the porous structure of a sol–gel silica film. Oxygen concentration is determined by phase-modulation fluorometry. Preliminary results concerning the characterization of doped sol–gel thin films deposited by dip coating in glass slides and in optical fiber probes are presented. Four different probe configurations are tested and compared. Best results are obtained with a fiber taper configuration which shows reproducibility and best excitation efficiency. This structure is fully characterized and some considerations regarding optimal fiber optical sensing probes for O2 detection are addressed. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This work presents ZnO nanorods coated multimode optical fiber sensing behavior in response to ethanol solution. The sensor operates based on modulation of light intensity which arises from manipulation of light interaction with the ambient environment in sensing region. For this purpose, two steps are experimentally applied here; etching and then coating fiber with ZnO nanorods to provide stro...
متن کاملUse of integrated optical waveguide probes as an alternative to fiber probes for sensing of light backscattered from small volumes
Fiber-optic probes are widely used today in optical techniques such as in vivo Raman spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, where probes with small dimensions and high flexibility are needed. However, the use of fibers is not always advantageous since they can introduce noise and signal distortions (dependent on fiber length). For example, when the signal is composed of different wavelengt...

A fiber-optic sensor system using a multiplexed array of sensing probes based on an aqueous solution of sodium chloride (NaCl solution) and an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) for simultaneous measurement of temperature and water level is proposed. By changing the temperature, the refractive index of the NaCl solution is varied and Fresnel reflection arising at the interface between the...

A dual-modal approach using Raman spectroscopy and optical pH sensing was investigated to discriminate between normal and cancerous tissues. Raman spectroscopy has demonstrated the potential for in vivo cancer detection. However, Raman spectroscopy has suffered from strong fluorescence background of biological samples and subtle spectral differences between normal and disease tissues. To overco...
